How to Paddle-a-thon 2017

Want to canoe or kayak on the river? Would you like to help support the health and longevity of the river while you do? Join the Ipswich River Watershed Association for our second annual Paddle-a-thon.

What does it mean to participate in Paddleathon?

Don’t get left behind! There are limited slots for paddlers and kayak racers so REGISTER TODAY!

Step one is to REGISTER! Let us know you’ll be participating in this awesome fundraiser for the river.

Will you be kayaking or canoeing? Going it alone, joining the guided Social Paddle, or taking your own route with friends/family? Once you’ve registered we’ll know to put together your Paddle-a-thon Package.

Do you own (or have access to) your own canoe/kayak? Awesome! If you don’t, we have a limited number we can lend, so register soon and let us know you’d like to reserve a boat! There are also several canoe and kayak rental businesses in the area, including Foote Brother’s Canoes who are offering a 10% discount to Paddle-a-thon participants renting on the day of the Paddle-a-thon.

Does the party sound fun, but you’re not interested in paddling? No problem! Register as a guest: make a minimum gift of $20 and enter “Paddle-a-thon party” for the donation purpose.

Next step: putting the FUN in fundraising!

Can’t make it to Paddle-a-thon this year? SPONSOR a paddler!

Once you’ve registered, you’ll be directed to our CrowdRise page. Every Paddle-a-thon participant is asked to raise a minimum of $100. This amount helps to pay for the event as well as helping our organization in our work restoring, advocating for, and educating about the Ipswich River. While our CrowdRise page is an option to make fundraising easier for you, don’t feel you have to use it! Do what ever you are most comfortable with, be that email appeals, GoFundMe, or asking face-to-face.

Is fundraising required if you’re not paddling? No, guests are asked to pay a fee of $20 for admittance to the party. This covers the cost of their food and 1 drink.

Make donations via check payable to IRWA,  with PAT 2017 written on the memo line.

Saturday, June 17th (the Big Day)

Those who have signed up for the guided social paddle will meet at the Topsfield Fairgrounds (the entrance near 97.) The social paddles will depart at 9 am and return at approximately 12 noon. For paddlers going their own routes (at any point in the day) please plan to join the party between noon and 3 pm, the lunch period. Lunch, beer, and nonalcoholic beverages will be provided by Baja Taco Truck and Ipswich Ale Brewery. Chat with other paddlers and listen to our musical guests, The Orville Giddings Trio. At 2 pm there will be a Kayak Race! The two winners (one male and one female) won’t be the only prize winners of the day: there are several categories including Best Decorated Boat.

Pumped for Paddle-a-thon? Great, see you there!
