Celebrating Water in Song

The choir sings Soul Spring as more than 100 people gather to celebrate water in song and readings. They sang Earth SongBlue Boat HomeI’ve Got Peace Like a River, I Brought my Spirit to the Sea and Wade in the Water and listened to The Lake at EveningRaindrop Prelude and Water Music. Members of the congregation were invited to suggest a favorite hymn relating to fresh water, say why they love it and then everyone sang it together. Rev. Dr. Victoria Weinstein says, “I LOVED the service. It was so beautifully paced, had lovely content and was very spiritually nourishing.” This service was created by Trish Aldrich, Christina Hansen and other members of the Green Sanctuary Team for the Earth Day Service at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lynn. Ipswich River Watershed Association was selected as the community organization to share in Sunday offerings during the month of May with donations matched by the Social Justice Ministry Team. More than 350,000 people and businesses (including congregants who live in Lynn, Lynnfield, Peabody, Salem and elsewhere) get their drinking water from the Ipswich River watershed. Celebrating and respecting the interdependent web of life is one of the main tenets of UUs. These water-loving UUs will gather at the river and follow up their day of celebrating fresh water by paddling together on the Ipswich River at Riverbend. How great is that?
