OUTREACH & EDUCATION

OUTREACH & EDUCATION

For communities to truly value and wish to protect the Ipswich River, they first need to understand its importance. Children especially can benefit immensely from exploring and asking questions about nature. Time spent in nature has both mental and physical health benefits and early experiences in nature can be linked to conservationists’ behaviors. Offering opportunities to connect with the river through our Outreach & Education Programs helps to safeguard this resource into the future.

FLOATING CLASSROOM

Summer Youth Education Program

As you plan educational activities, field trips, nature or river excursions and outdoor programming, consider programs or activities which focus on and highlight the Ipswich River. Utilize the Ipswich River Watershed Association as a resource or partner in those programs. We can help you plan and organize your river outing and provide suggestions and guidance. We can host your group here at Riverbend, where you will have the use of our boats and paddling equipment, or if you’re having your program at another location, we can come to wherever you are and provide an on-site educational experience.

GREENSCAPES EDUCATION

Greenscapes Coalition

The Greenscapes North Shore Coalition is a regional partnership that works to promote and protect beautiful landscapes for clean and plentiful water in the North Shore communities of Massachusetts. Towns that join the Greenscapes Coalition can cost-effectively meet the federal requirements for educating their citizens about water conservation and stormwater. The program offers a comprehensive guide to environmentally friendly landscaping, presentations, a 5th grade in-class education program and outreach materials to participating towns.

KERRY MACKIN INTERNSHIP

Each year the Ipswich River Watershed Association seeks out a motivated individual with strong interest in environmental science and education to join our team as our Kerry Mackin Intern. This 12 week position offers a chance to gain on-the-ground experience in leadership, environmental stewardship and education while making a lasting contribution with a community driven environmental non-profit organization.
