If you’ve recently visited the dock at our Riverbend headquarters, you’ll have noticed our most recent addition: a kayak launch. Entering and exiting a kayak from a dock requires a different technique than entering from a sloped landing, and it can be a tricky endeavor! We want everyone to be able to get out on the river and enjoy it, and getting into a boat is the first step.
Wayne shows how to properly exit a kayak.Using the Kayak Launch
- Use of the launch is strictly for kayaks; please do not attempt to use the launch for a canoe.
- To use the launch, place your kayak into the water off the front of the dock, and lead it into the launch channel.
- The bar is there to provide added stability as you enter and exit your kayak. Do not attempt to pull yourself up on it or swing on it.
- Do not stand up in your kayak!
- Lead your kayak back around to the front of the dock to take it out of the water.
Thank you to the following donors who pitched in to provide this launch for both our members and the public.
Thom Adorney, Barbara and Michael Barrington, Peter Bryant, Matthew Cockreham, Rev. Katharine C. Evans, Roberta Hantgan, Robert Joyal, Barbara Ostberg, Annie and Bob Pulver, Joe Wilson, Karyl Stoia, Diane J. Young, and Zumi’s Espresso Coffee Shop. We’ve raised $1,200 so far, with $800 still needed. Donate today to help us reach our goal! Thanks also to volunteers Don Ruzecki and Will Holton for assembling and installing the launch!
HI
Glad you did this. I also think we need a handle or ladder so we can more easily get into a canoe from the dog. Hope you will consider this.
HI
I meant to say “from the dock” not the dog! Faith
