Kaitlyn Returns to the Sea

Our Restoration Manager Kaitlyn Shaw is moving on, to work for the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA). Says Kaitlyn, “as the herring must return to the sea, so shall I.” Photo credit Eric Savetsky.

Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of this fantastic organization! I believe that watershed management begins at the source and that restoration is critical to protect and improve our water resources.  As such, it has been an exciting two years of working on barrier assessments and restoration, dam investigations and unique approaches to improving water quality through behavior change campaigns.

I will be heading to NOAA’s Habitat and Ecosystem Services Division and will remain as an active volunteer on projects related to streamlining water quality analysis and visualization for the Ipswich River Watershed and other organizations which will benefit from a more streamlined analysis and reporting methodology.

I hope to see someone fill the Restoration Manager position who is passionate about restoration, with a strong understanding of engineering and who excels at grant writing and project management.

It has been a pleasure to work for the Ipswich River Watershed Association.  I never imagined when I began this position, that Wayne and the rest of the staff could have taught me such an incredible amount of information about on-the-ground restoration, this region, our partnerships, and about non-profits in general.  For a small organization, such an incredible amount of work is able to be achieved and that is due to great leadership by the board and through Wayne’s dedication to the mission of the organization.
