Welcome Amanda!

Amanda Recupero of Ipswich is joining Ipswich River as a volunteer intern during her senior year at Endicott College.

My name is Amanda Recupero. I am a senior at Endicott College majoring in Environmental Science and minoring in Biology. While Covid-19 has posed many limitations on the ability for students to find internships, I was lucky to find my semester-long internship at the Ipswich River Watershed Association. Majoring in Environmental Science has allowed me to use the principles and theories of science to solve problems while developing an understanding of the balance between environmental issues, politics, and the welfare of the community. I hope that I can use my skills and knowledge from my past three years at Endicott and apply it to my work throughout the fall at Ipswich River.

I have lived in Ipswich my whole life and because of this my family and I are avid paddlers on the river. Living in Ipswich has allowed me to explore the river and its surrounding trails, that is when I came to learn about IRWA and their work. I was aware that one of the main goals of the watershed was to protect and improve the health of the Ipswich River; however, I had no idea about the projects they took part in, as well as their work with other towns.

This fall I will be working on programs related to monitoring, outreach, environmental planning, advocacy and restoration, while also lending a hand to other staff members and volunteers. I am happy that I can spend my semester working for a local organization that strives to protect nature and acts as the voice of the Ipswich River.
