40(+) People You Should Thank!

We are always grateful to the many volunteers who make our work possible. Volunteers contribute to the organization in many ways such as monitoring water quality, helping out at our office, with mailings, in our gardens, as board members and at events both on and around the river.

We recently held a volunteer recognition event at Ipswich River Park in North Reading. Over 40 volunteers attended to enjoy each other’s company during a casual cookout and watch a skillful canoe and kayak demonstration generously provided by Keith Attenborough of Newbury Kayak and Canoe. Many volunteers gathered together, all of whom contribute their talents and energy in immeasurable ways. Among those in attendance were board members Dick Jacobson and Bobbi Whiting, long-time water quality monitors Kim Honetschlager and Gina Snyder, one of our technology volunteers, Kristen Thiebault, who creates maps for the website. Even our youngest volunteer, Robbie O’Donnell, came in tow with his dad whom he helps with water quality testing; Robbie was also eager to volunteer at the cookout by flipping burgers on the grill! All of our volunteers give their time to defend, learn about, and give voice to the river. Many of them fulfill several volunteer duties, going truly above and beyond.

By giving in so many ways, volunteers make the work of the organization possible. The river is better off as a result of their visible presence on the river and by promoting the mission of the organization to those around them. Please consider supporting volunteer programs through membership or by becoming a volunteer!
