His legacy here includes not only the wonderful Deck House that he loved so much, but also the beautiful and formidable stone retaining wall that he built himself. He also did all the tree work on the property by himself, using a clever pulley contraption he put together. Dr. Bob had an unending curiosity, a naturally inquisitive mind and eclectic interests (including dancing, history, architecture, stone buildings, among others), and an abiding love of and concern for our rivers and the environment.‹¨›/p‹˜›‹¨›p‹˜›He wanted to ensure that the property he loved would be permanently preserved by an organization that would love and take care of it as he had. Thankfully, with the help of Ed Becker of Greenbelt, ‹¨›span id‹´›‹²›more-5159‹²›‹˜›‹¨›/span‹˜›he found us in 2002. He spent several years vetting IRWA, interviewing us and reviewing all our work, before making the biggest and most transformational gift of our 35 year history – our beautiful headquarters on 15 acres, with a quarter-mile of frontage on the Ipswich River. He was hugely supportive of our efforts to ensure that the Ipswich River and all our rivers would be protected.‹¨›/p‹˜›‹¨›p‹˜›Dr. Bob is survived by his daughter, Michelle, of Florida and his son, Gregor, of New York.‹¨›/p‹˜›‹¨›p‹˜›Trish Aldrich, Miriam Lasher and I visited Dr. Bob shortly after Christmas, and we were so happy to see that he had rebounded from serious health problems he had experienced last year. We had a great visit with him, during which he talked enthusiastically about his many interests; his intellect and wit were sharp and his spirit was strong. He lived life fully, with care for others and the earth, and with curiosity and gusto.
