Castle Neck River Ice Cream Social
Join us for an ice cream social where our staff will be available to answer your questions about the upcoming project on Old Essex Road and Route 133, located on the border of Ipswich and Essex. This important initiative focuses on restoring the Castle Neck River and addressing two high-priority coastal barriers in an area highly vulnerable to sea level rise, storm surge, and extreme precipitation.
Why an ice cream social?
We couldn’t have been more lucky to have a project happening next to DownRiver Ice Cream – a local favorite! We’ll grab some ice cream and join IRWA staff to hear about the benefits of removing a section of Old Essex Road. We know that moving or abandoning roads, buildings, and even whole neighborhoods isn’t a realistic option all along the coast, but on the Ipswich/Essex border we found the perfect spot to put this into practice. Funded by an MVP Grant, we’re developing designs to remove the section of Old Essex Road over Castle Neck River and restore the surrounding marsh on the Ipswich/Essex border. Want to learn more? Eat ice cream with us while we tour the site of this project and answer your questions.
