Ipswich Mills Dam Discovery Walk

Join us for a unique opportunity to explore the environmental significance of the Ipswich Mills Dam and its surrounding neighborhoods. This educational walk will be guided by staff from the Ipswich River Watershed Association, alongside representatives from the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries, Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

What to Expect:

  • Insightful Exploration: We’ll gather at Hall Haskel House (36 S. Main St., Ipswich) then stroll over the footbridge for a panoramic view of Ipswich Mills Dam and fish ladder. We’ll continue along the riverwalk, go around EBSCO, and head up to Peatfield Landing, covering about a mile in total.
  • Environmental Discourse: Gain a deeper understanding of the potential impact of dam removal on the local ecosystem.
  • Expert Guidance: Learn from scientists including Ben Gahagan (Diadromous Fish Biologist), Chris Hirsch (Dam Removal Program Manager), and Brian Kelder (Marine Habitat Resource Specialist).
