Over the past four years, the river has faced devastating drought, arguments over fair management of water resources, and a myriad of other day-to-day challenges. The 2016 drought brought the Ipswich River into focus as the poster child of struggling rivers and we have since leveraged that position to call attention to the vulnerability of our rivers. Hand in hand with that work is Paddle-a-thon, our now annual event that raises funds and awareness for clean water. The fundraising event began in 2016 and in 2020 it will return for a fifth year, with the party taking place on Saturday, June 20th.‹¨›/span‹˜›‹¨›/p‹˜›” animation_group=”{‹²›selected‹²›:‹²›no‹²›,‹²›yes‹²›:{‹²›animation‹²›:{‹²›animation‹²›:‹²›fadeInUp‹²›,‹²›delay‹²›:‹²›200‹²›}}}” responsive=”{‹²›desktop_display‹²›:{‹²›selected‹²›:‹²›yes‹²›},‹²›tablet_landscape_display‹²›:{‹²›selected‹²›:‹²›yes‹²›},‹²›tablet_display‹²›:{‹²›selected‹²›:‹²›yes‹²›},‹²›smartphone_display‹²›:{‹²›selected‹²›:‹²›yes‹²›}}” class=”” __fw_editor_shortcodes_id=”ab1d5af4204159a01678c49db8de3284″ _array_keys=”{‹²›text_advanced_styling‹²›:‹²›text_advanced_styling‹²›,‹²›animation_group‹²›:‹²›animation_group‹²›,‹²›responsive‹²›:‹²›responsive‹²›}” _fw_coder=”aggressive”][/text_block][text_block unique_id=”486197ec1861f70fcac0dfd4d9f4fcd2″ text_advanced_styling=”{‹²›text‹²›:{‹²›google_font‹²›:true,‹²›subset‹²›:‹²›latin‹²›,‹²›variation‹²›:‹²›regular‹²›,‹²›family‹²›:‹²›PT Sans‹²›,‹²›style‹²›:false,‹²›weight‹²›:false,‹²›size‹²›:‹²›16.5‹²›,‹²›line-height‹²›:‹²›28‹²›,‹²›letter-spacing‹²›:‹²›0‹²›,‹²›color-palette‹²›:{‹²›id‹²›:‹²›fw-custom‹²›,‹²›color‹²›:‹²›‹²›},‹²›is_saved‹²›:false}}” text=”‹¨›p‹˜›‹º›caption id‹´›‹²›attachment_21855‹²› align‹´›‹²›alignleft‹²› width‹´›‹²›300‹²›‹¹›‹¨›img class‹´›‹²›size-medium wp-image-21855‹²› src‹´›‹²›http://www.ipswichriver.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/kiosk_feat-300×300.png‹²› alt‹´›‹²›‹²› width‹´›‹²›300‹²› height‹´›‹²›300‹²› /‹˜› This fall a new kiosk was installed at Ipswich River Park in North Reading, where the organization has held several events including our 40th Anniversary Party, a Rain Barrel Workshop, and the annual Long Haul Paddle.‹º›/caption‹¹›‹¨›/p‹˜›‹¨›p‹˜›‹¨›span style‹´›‹²›font-weight: 400;‹²›‹˜›Ipswich River supporters have also been spreading awareness about the river and the organization throughout the watershed. With the common goal of promoting healthy ecosystems in the coastal rivers of northeastern Massachusetts, PIE-Rivers was formed to increase communication, coordination and collaboration between those involved in restoration, preservation and management of the watersheds. Nine years since it began, PIE-Rivers has made possible many grant programs and on-the-ground projects for its partners.
