The walk, led by Wayne Castonguay and Amy Weidnesaul, was a chance for supporters of the Ipswich River Watershed Association and Mass Audubon to learn about how these two organizations are working together, directly from the Executive Directors. ‹¨›/span‹˜›‹¨›/p‹˜›‹¨›p‹˜›‹¨›span style‹´›‹²›font-weight: 400;‹²›‹˜›The route took the group of more than 40 to the viewing platform that over looks Bunker Meadows, through a stand of the sanctuary’s sugar maples, and alongside the river. The sanctuary’s importance as habitat was evident. Walkers observed beaver activity, heard about the massive numbers of wood ducks that stop over in the sanctuary each year, and were followed along their path by the chirps and calls of chick-a-dees, tufted titmice, and nuthatches. ‹¨›/span‹˜›‹¨›/p‹˜›‹¨›p‹˜›‹¨›span style‹´›‹²›font-weight: 400;‹²›‹˜›After the walk, the group discussed the challenges facing the river and the wildlife habitats that depend on it, like the sanctuary. While the weather was nice for walking, it was an ever present reminder of the increasingly unpredictable conditions brought by climate change.
