Watershed Associations Unite! Neponset Visits Ipswich

We ran into our friends from the Neponset River Watershed Association while they were on their three-day camping trip along the Ipswich River. Here’s their story written by Declan Devine, Environmental Scientist at Neponset River Watershed Association.

Our trip started at “Jenk’s Bridge” at Woburn Street in Wilmington. The first day we made it a bit past Boston Street and The South Middleton Dam. We were amazed at all of the beautiful marsh and the numbers of songbirds, ducks, and geese living there. The second day we paddled to the Great Wenham Swamp. We saw an exceptional amount of beaver activity throughout the watershed but especially in the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary.

On the third day, the heavy snow made the river look so magical and we enjoyed checking out some of the walking trails on the south side of the river. We ended our trip at the Ipswich Mills Dam and had a look at the fish ladder. The IRWA Paddle Guide was a helpful tool for planning and paddling. Thank you for all of your work to keep the Ipswich River such an amazing place!
