Join the Ipswich River Watershed Association for BioBlitz: Participatory Science at Hood Pond, a fun, family-friendly community science event where people of all ages work together to identify plants and animals, collect environmental data, and explore the incredible biodiversity of the Ipswich River watershed.

This hands-on outdoor adventure is a chance to get outside, connect with nature, and learn how community-collected data supports ongoing efforts to restore fish habitat and build climate resilience throughout the watershed.

What to Expect

Activities will be tailored to the unique habitats around Hood Pond and may include:

  • Plant identification training and surveys
  • Animal identification training and surveys
  • Water quality investigations, such as testing chloride levels
  • Instruction on using the iNaturalist app to upload observations

Participants will learn how scientists, conservation organizations, and agencies such as MassWildlife use data collected through iNaturalist to better understand and protect wildlife and habitats across Massachusetts.

No experience is necessary. Whether you are an avid birder, a budding botanist, or simply curious about the plants and animals in your own backyard, this event offers a meaningful way to contribute to real scientific research while enjoying a morning outdoors.
