Ipswich River’s 2022 Internships

Each year, we enjoy working with the next generation of river advocates. This year, we are seeking two motivated individuals to join our team through paid internships.

Science and Restoration Analyst

Our Science and Restoration programs include a variety of activities designed to restore aquatic habitat in the Ipswich, Parker and Essex Rivers through flow restoration, water quality improvement, fisheries restoration and physical habitat improvement projects. This position provides a unique opportunity for students or recent graduates who are interested in gaining experience working in the environmental sector alongside passionate and experienced professionals. This position requires a person with a strong interest in environmental science and ecological restoration. The ideal candidate will have a mix of relevant education and experience, and most importantly be passionate about IRWA’s mission to protect nature and ensure there is enough clean, safe water for people, fish, and wildlife. Excellent computer skills and proficiency with spreadsheet programs and GIS are highly preferred. Candidates should also have a valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation. Kerry Mackin Summer Educator

The Ipswich River Watershed Association is seeking a motivated individual with strong interest in environmental education to join our team as our Kerry Mackin Summer Educator. As our Summer Educator, you will gain on-the-ground experience in leadership, environmental stewardship and education while making a lasting contribution with a community driven environmental non-profit organization. The Summer Educator will help plan and facilitate educational paddling outings for youth groups on the Ipswich River while working with staff and volunteers on a variety of project during the summer.

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in the environment and conservation as well as a willingness to learn and apply new skills on the job. Preferred qualifications include the ability to successfully facilitate youth groups in an outdoor setting and the ability to perform duties with minimal supervision. Groups will range in size from 10-40 individuals, ages 3-18. Youth groups will be accompanied by their own staff leaders with the focus of the Intern being the facilitation of outings and the delivery of associated educational programs.
